one thing that’s always caught my eyes was the chuppahs and canopies and such at weddings. i understand the symbolism behind chuppah and know that it’s not just for decoration but there are some simply wonderful and beautiful chuppahs out there!

christina aguilera’s extreme chuppah!

sometimes when i’m at church i like to dress it up in my mind. i know i should be paying attention to the pastor but it’s kind of hard when i’m trying to visually measure just how much space is up on the podium. or counting how many pew decorations i’ll need and if i should put something on the pillars on the sides of the sanctuary.
i mean, its hard trying to pay attention while looking for the book and verse he just quoted. because i was too busy wondering if i wanted to make an aisle runner.
i think i should ask for forgiveness and repent.
anywho, i came across this picture on one of miss. piglet’s posts about wedding venues in hawaii and thought, “this is what i want!”

isn’t it just dreamy and wonderful and simple and perfect?
because i thought so and then went on a searching spree trying to find some way of doing this as inexpensively as possible. alas, i couldn’t find anything that came remotely close and i definitely didn’t want to end up with the ubiquitous “wedding arch” from michael’s.

i didn’t want anything that would require too much building so wood was out of the question, as were buckets filled with cement. i didn’t want chuppah bearers either, even though it’s supposed to be an honor. i also didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg for something that wasn’t exactly what i was looking for. i did briefly think that maybe we could repurpose an arch or trellis for a future yard but even that seemed like a stretch for me and i can justify just about anything.
but then it hit me: pvc pipe! its lightweight enough to make it easy to transport and simple enough to build on site the night before and cheap! especially if you’re lucky enough to find a listing on craigslist for free pvc pipe like i did that night. oh if only i were planning for real! i totally would have picked those up.
so with some pvc pipe, joiners, some fabric [that's NOT tulle...i have this "thing" with tulle] and silk flowers, i can comfortably recreate this beauty for our ceremony! heck, if i were so inclined i could also get some spray paint and paint those poles a light brown to simulate bamboo or some other branchy wood. i haven’t done the full cost analysis of this project yet but hopefully i’ll get around to doing it so i can see if it is actually monetarily feasible. here’s hoping!
